Canada's Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Showdown Versus defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder was instrumental for the Astros securing the championship in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays reached their maiden championship series since the 1993 season by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive game seven of the AL Championship Series.

Down 3-1, Springer smashed a three-run homer in the seventh frame, propelling the sole Canadian team in the majors to a four games to three victory in the seven-game series. Next up are the Dodgers, the team that is the defending champions, in the upcoming Fall Classic.

"I'm thrilled for our team, our city, Canada," commented Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 title. "This is such an amazing experience."

Springer has now hit 23 total playoff homers, placing him third in history behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"I can't think of another player in the world that I want up in that moment besides Springer with his October magic," noted manager John Schneider.

Seattle, despite leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the one club never to appear in a Fall Classic.

Wilson said "there's no question that it hurts" after his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but commended their performance in the campaign.

"It's a special team. Sadly that we finished on the losing end of the series," he added.

Toronto won the title on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and will host the Los Angeles in the opener on this Friday.
