Football Analyst Chris Sutton Takes On Singer Olly Murs in Top Flight Forecasts

The Gunners' 10-game winning streak was ended by Sunderland before the global break, but will the Premier League leaders bounce back against local foes Spurs this weekend?

"{I believe like Arsenal are light years ahead of Tottenham at the moment but Spurs boss Thomas Frank will have a plan for this game," remarked soccer expert Chris Sutton.

"The Spurs manager will attempt to nullify Arsenal, who have not always been at their sparkling best this campaign - but Mikel Arteta's side usually still find a way to win."

The analyst is making predictions for all 380 Premier League fixtures this season, against artificial intelligence, readers and a variety of guests.

For the twelfth round, he takes on singer Olly Murs, who is a Manchester United fan.

Murs' latest album, the new release, is out on the weekend.

Soccer and Parenting Life

Murs is a skilled soccer player as well as a successful singer and has been a featured player of several Soccer Aid matches over time - but he is not intending a professional return as a footballer.

"{I actually played in a benefit game the other evening for a friend of mine," he explained. "My team was losing 3-1 when I was substituted in the 60th minute, and they went on to win 4-3, so you can read into that what you want!

"I still love football, but I hurt my joint a few years ago and it even now isn't where I want it to be. I hope I could play more but the uncertainty of the sport means it's too risky for me in my profession to do it seriously again.

"Plus I am 41 now, and we are not all Cristiano Ronaldo, are we!? No, I am very content not playing football and I am preparing for the time that my child or son decides to play instead."

The singer and his spouse his partner have two children, Madison and Albert, and he is ready to emulate his dad by becoming their coach.

"I won't push football on our children but I've already told my wife that if they do get the bug for it then I will have to go and get my manager qualifications - and I will probably be coaching their weekend soccer side," he said.

"I watched my nephews play a lot, and I truly got into it, and I clearly was involved with a soccer team for a period too.

"My dad did it with us when I was a kid, which is likely where I inherited it. He managed our team for several years and had great fun with it. That could be the next step for me as well, and I am excited to it!"

Premier League Forecasts

Saturday, 22 November

  • Turf Moor, 12:30 GMT

Chelsea might have to wait a bit longer for Cole Palmer's return from injury but their attack is already more potent with Pedro and Liam Delap both back fit.

In my opinion this fixture will be quite close, however. Burnley are well organised and their only at Turf Moor defeats so far have been against Liverpool and Arsenal.

This smells of a 1-1 tie to me, but I am in fact going to go with Chelsea to edge it for what would be their third consecutive Premier League win in a row.

The expert's forecast: 1-2

Olly's prediction: Chelsea will be superior. 1-3

AI's outlook: 0-2

  • Vitality Stadium, 15:00 GMT

The Cherries have been defeated in their previous couple matches - albeit both of them were away - but they got thoroughly beaten by Villa last time out which shocked me.

On the other hand, the Hammers won two in a row before the hiatus and, although both of those games were at home, they appear strong again.

West Ham's only away win this campaign came at Nottingham Forest in the summer, when their boss Nuno was previously Forest coach.

So, what exactly do I predict here - will it be the Hammers extending their streak under their manager, or Bournemouth bouncing back?

I am going to go with the Cherries, because I think what happened against Aston Villa was a anomaly.

Sutton's prediction: 2-0

Olly's prediction: Bournemouth are performing strongly but West Ham have improved under their boss. 2-2

AI's prediction: 1-1

  • Amex Stadium, 15:00 GMT

The Bees were seen as one of the frontrunners for the drop before the season began, but they have impressed a few people under their manager and are in fine fettle with three in their last four matches.

My son advised me to select Brentford striker Thiago in my Fantasy Football squad a few weeks back and, guess what, I didn't listen.

Thiago will probably find the net again on the weekend but I am nonetheless not going to pick him or support the away side at Amex Stadium.

The Bees have not had great success on the road this season, and the Seagulls are always decent at their stadium. Brentford will attempt to hit them on the counter-attack but I think Fabian Hurzeler's team carry much more of a threat.

The analyst's prediction: 2-1

Olly's view: This could be one of those games where you think there is going to be a many goals but it in reality turns out to be rather tight. 1-1

The computer's outcome: 2-1

  • Craven Cottage, 15:00 GMT

It is a massive fixture for the Cottagers, who have suffered defeat in five of their past six matches.

They have got plenty of talent in their team but it still seems like they could be sucked into a drop zone fight.

Regarding the Black Cats, well they are the unexpected success of the top flight season so far.

Their display in the two-all draw with the Gunners last time out was excellent. We've not seen anyone else disrupt the Gunners like that this term, and Sunderland were fully competitive for them.

The logical choice would be to back the Black Cats here, because they are obviously capable of disrupting Fulham up too and, the last time they were in west London, they beat the Blues at the close of October.

However I am not going to do that. Instead, I truly need to continue opposing Sunderland with my forecasts. I am claiming a lot of responsibility for their positive outcomes because they clearly love to prove me wrong.

Looking at Fulham's home record, the sole team they have lost to is Arsenal. Marco Silva's side will be extremely eager for a good outcome, so I am going to say they will pick up three much-needed points.

The expert's forecast: 1-0

Olly's choice: I know Sunderland are doing well and also that Fulham are on a bad run... but Fulham have still been respectable at Craven Cottage this campaign. 2-0

AI's prediction: 2-0

  • Anfield, 15:00 GMT

This is a hard one to predict. The Reds have suffered seven of their past 10 matches in every tournament, but could they be among the sides who profit from the {international break|
