The British government is set to progress with utilizing the total value of seized Russian funds to bolster the Ukrainian military campaign, PM Sir Keir Starmer has announced.

In a joint statement, the officials of the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and Germany asserted that this joint measure would heighten pressure on Moscow's head Vladimir Putin and persuade Moscow to come to the table.

They clarified that the initiative would be implemented in close cooperation with the US.

British sanctions have immobilized in excess of £25bn of Russia's resources since the Russian government began its widespread offensive against Ukraine in 2022. But, previously, money provided to Ukraine using Russian funds had only been drawn from profits and interest earned on them.

Sir Keir assured Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the Britain, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany were united in their aim to push forward toward using the full value of the immobilized Russian sovereign assets to end the war.

He added that further restrictions over the next period would increase the strain on the Russian government.

This announcement comes after European Union officials convened in the Danish capital previously to debate employing immobilized Russian assets for a €140 billion loan to the Ukrainian nation.

Last month, US President Donald Trump called on international partners to confiscate or otherwise use immobilized Russia's holdings, based on reports.

The worth of immobilized Russian holdings in the Europe is estimated to be almost €211bn.

Moscow executed extensive aerial attacks across Ukraine on Friday, causing power cuts in large parts of the capital city, Kyiv, and eight other regions.

Two people were lost their lives and at least 20 people were hurt in the assault, the Ukrainian government said.

In a post on social media following the attack, Zelensky stated that the strategic strike focused on non-military and power facilities.

"The necessity is not empty words but firm measures - from the America, the European Union, and the seven nations - in providing defense mechanisms and implementing sanctions," he wrote.

"Every sanction decision undermines the Russian war effort," Zelensky noted, in a different message.

Also on Friday, Zelensky informed reporters he would press Sir Keir to enter the PURL scheme, under which alliance members acquire weapons from the United States to provide to Ukraine.

While applauding the UK's strong support for the Ukrainian government, he noted it should send a clear signal that it would take part in the initiative, as well as enforce additional measures on Russia.
