This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as pardoning festive fowl, but the county's top official experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people yelling “six-seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Annually, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
